What counts as 3/4 sweatpants?
A 3/4 (three-quarter) sweatpant is cut to roughly three quarters of a full leg length — the hem lands between the knee and the ankle, usually mid-calf. You will also see them sold as cropped joggers, capri sweatpants or 3/4 sweats. The fabric is the same fleece, French terry or heavyweight cotton used on full-length pairs, so they still feel like sweatpants rather than shorts.
How to pick your length
Just below the knee reads closest to a short and works best on warm days and in the gym. Mid-calf is the classic three-quarter look and pairs cleanly with high-top sneakers. If you are between sizes, go up one: a relaxed or wide-leg cut is meant to drape rather than cling, and a snug cropped leg loses the silhouette.
What to wear them with
Keep the top boxy — an oversized tee, a hooded tank or a heavyweight crewneck balances the cropped leg. Crew socks and chunky sneakers are the safe pairing; low-profile sneakers with no-show socks make the leg look longer. Stick to one wash family (snow-wash with snow-wash, black with black) if you want the outfit to read as a set.
Care so the crop keeps its shape
Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle and tumble dry low or hang dry. Heavyweight fleece shrinks mostly in length, which is exactly where a three-quarter cut has the least room to spare. Wash washed or pigment-dyed pairs inside out for the first few cycles to hold the colour.
